Unfortunately one of our charity partners has had allegations brought against them and whilst we are taking this very seriously, we equally have to give all parties a chance to explain their case whilst a full and transparent investigation has been undertaken to enable a fair conclusion.
We are taking on board serious allegations of wrongdoing at one of charity partners‘ (Penny Appeal) Gambia division. We cannot condone such impropriety and ourselves are in constant contact with senior management at Penny Appeal demanding comment and answers.
We spoke to the Founder and Chairman of Penny Appeal as soon as we heard the stories and they are of course taking the allegations very seriously and have launched a full investigation.
This was his initial statement to us and we will of course await further comments about investigations.
On 13th August 2020 Penny Appeal became aware of an alleged safeguarding issue in relation to a local community based partner working with Penny Appeal Gambia.
We are horrified at these allegations and fully recognise and accept our responsibility to ensure we, and our partners, provide an environment which protects the safety of our beneficiaries – especially young people – at all times.
As such, we have started the commissioning of a full and independent investigation into all related matters and have informed the Charity Commission of this through a Serious Incident Report.
All safeguarding concerns are treated with the highest level of seriousness and priority. Our primary concern has and will always be the wellbeing of those in need.We have prepared the following statement: https://pennyappeal.org/news/safeguarding-gambia
